(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago’s Strength to Love Foundation is covering many bases, but a major mission is providing free medical care for low-income people with asthma and allergies.
Founder Dr. Dave Nayak said people must be uninsured to be treated at his clinic on Belmont near Leavitt.
“When you walk in our door, we provide you the evaluation. All of your medications are free, your labs are free and even the imaging is free,” he tells WBBM Newsradio.
But the organization does more. It offers financial assistance to families of children killed by gun violence. Nayak said the state’s reimbursement program for families to cover funeral expenses is too slow.
“It’s very impossible, to be honest, for families to have the ability to come up with these funds in such a short period of time,” he said.
The foundation also grows food for pantries in Illinois. Dr. Nayak, a farmer, hopes to grow 350,000 pounds of sweet corn to help those suffering from food insecurity in Illinois. He works with the groups Feeding Illinois and the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
